One of our greatest bikepacking journeys, Sounds to Sounds, follows the path less pedalled on a 1,500 km route stretching the length of Te Waipounamu, the South Island. 

From Queen Charlotte Sound to Milford Sound, the route explores spectacular and diverse landscapes and welcoming rural communities via several of the NZ Cycle Trails Great Rides.

It pulls together some of the most enjoyable and scenic cycle routes on offer, including the Queen Charlotte Track, The Molesworth, the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, Lake Dunstan Trail and Otago Central Rail Trail. A select group of riders christened the route in early 2022. Over 400 riders have already signed up for the 2023 event. As with Tour Aotearoa, the route is open to anyone to ride outside the official event.
