Local DescriptionReview: I love these editions - so beautifully produced, so solid and permanent, just as Tove Jansson deserved -- Philip Pullman Author Biography: The Finnish artist and author Tove Jansson (1914-2001) wrote and illustrated her first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945 as a form of escape from the dark shadows of war. By 1965, when the seventh and penultimate Moomin novel Moominpappa at Sea was published her books had become world famous. The eight Moomin titles would be translated into over fifty languages and remain in print for the next six decades. Tove Jansson lived in Helsinki and a tiny island in the Gulf of Finland which she shared with her life partner, the graphic artist, Tuulikki Pietila. DescriptionMoominpappa is feeling at a loss. He has no idea what to do with himself - it seems everything has already been done So he takes his family off to start a new life in a lighthouse on a tiny, rocky island far out to sea. It's rather lonely at first, but it isn't long before the Moomins discover some funny and surprising new things about themselves. Promotion infoSpecial Collectors' Edition |
