Author description

Barbara Ann Radnofsky was a partner in the respected Houston law firm of Vinson & Elkins in Houston but, after 27 years as a defense and trial lawyer and head of the firm's alternative dispute resolution section she retired in 2006 to become the first woman in Texas history to run as the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate. Losing to incumbent Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Radnofsky returned to legal practice to work as a mediator. She also volunteers as a teacher, primarily with the Upward Bound program, working with students with neurological disorders. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Houston, where she enrolled at age 16, and the University of Texas School of Law, Radnofsky is married and the mother of three children. She lives in Houston.
